Styles & Levels

These are the dance styles we currently offer at Oak Dance Studio. We hope and aim to extend our curriculum in the future!

Classical Ballet

Our ballet classes focus on building strong technique, musicality, and expressive movement in a supportive and structured environment. Students develop balance, coordination, flexibility, and strength while learning the grace and precision that define classical ballet. Through both traditional exercises and creative exploration, dancers gain confidence, discipline, and a deeper understanding of movement. Ballet provides a solid foundation for all styles of dance and helps students grow not only as dancers, but as artists.

Level 1: We expect that you know the basic ballet feet positions and are familiar with terminology such as plié, chassé, and tendu.

Level 2: We expect that you are familiar with barre terminology and can execute combinations in the center as well as the diagonal. Every second week we will end class with “pointe school”, great for all students no matter if you're already dancing en pointe or not. (Do not dance en pointe without your teacher’s confirmation).

Contemporary

Contemporary dance encourages students to explore movement with freedom, creativity, and emotional expression. Classes blend elements of ballet, modern, and jazz to develop strength, flexibility, and fluidity, while also emphasizing musicality and personal interpretation. Dancers learn to work with the floor, gravity, and dynamic changes in movement, combining soft, flowing phrases with sharper, more athletic sequences. Contemporary dance invites each student to connect movement to feeling, helping them grow as confident, expressive, and versatile artists.

Open Level: Everybody is welcome! The teacher will adapt the level to the group and the individual.

Jazz

Jazz dance is a high-energy, theatrical style that builds strong technique, confidence, and stage presence. Classes focus on sharp, dynamic movement combined with expressive performance, helping students develop strength, coordination, flexibility, and musicality. Dancers learn kicks, turns, jumps, and bold choreography set to upbeat or dramatic music, while also practicing facial expression and performance quality. Jazz encourages students to bring personality and confidence to their dancing, making it a fun and exciting way to grow as a performer.

Level 1: We expect that you know the basic ballet feet positions and are familiar with terminology such as plié and chassé.

Level 2: We expect that you are familiar with jazz terminology and are able to perform combinations across the floor.
